END OF THE ROAD FOR COMMISSIONERS MATHANGA, KUNJE, DUWA: COURT SAYD THEY WERE UNDULY APPOINTED

High Court judge Kenyatta Nyirenda has ruled that Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Commissioners appointed by former President Peter Mutharika were not duly appointed.

DPP commissioners are especially Linda Kunje, Jean Mathanga and Steve Duwa.

Kenyatta is reading a ruling in a case where Malawi Congress Party sued the President for appointing the commissioners.

Kenyatta says the law compelled the President to appoint 3 commissioners each from MCP and Democratic Proggressive Party (DPP) but he appointed 4 from DPP and 2 from MCP.

The Court has further ruled that the appointment of all four MEC commissioners representing DPP has been quashed.

The leader of DPP will have to submit three names immediately within seven days.
The Court has said the MCP commissioners Anthony Mukumbwa and Olivia Liwewe will continue to serve as commissioners.
