Mpinganjira enters defense in infamous judjes bribery case

Mpinganjira is accused of allegedly attempting to bribe five High Court judges sitting as the Constitutional Court in the May 21 2019 presidential election nullification petition case.

BLANTYRE (MalawiTalk) –High Court Judge Dorothy DeGabrielle has found business mogul Dr Thomson Mpinganjira with a case to answer in his alleged judges’ bribery case in relation to last year’s fresh presidential elections..

In her ruling, DeGabrielle says evidence that the State brought before the court proved elements of attempting to bribe the judges that presided over the historic presidential election nullification case.

She said the opinion of the court ia that evidence by the prosecution proved some of the essential eleemnts in relation to charges Mpinganjira is answering.

DeGabrielle has since told Mpinganjira that he can enter his defence or remain silent as per his Constitutional rights.

Mpinganjira is accused of allegedly attempting to bribe five High Court judges sitting as the Constitutional Court in the May 21 2019 presidential election nullification petition case.

Mpinganjira’s lawyer Mr Patrice Nkhono has since told the court that they will have to discuss the ruling first before pondering on the next move if witnesses will be paraded or not.

Nkhono asked court to give the defence more time to navigate the way forward which the prosecution ld by Anti Corruption bureau (ACB) chief legal and prosecution officer Victor Chiwala, did not object to t request.
