Kandodo- Pocketed Covid-19 allowances for a trip to escort President

LILONGWE (MalawiTalk) –Shocking details have emerged on how Minister of Labour Ken Kandodo took a whooping K1.4m from the K6.2bn money meant to COVID-19 fight and used it as an allowance for escorting President Lazarus Chakwera’s trip to South Africa.

According to Investigative Report on the Usage and Accountability of K6.2 billion COVID-19 Disbursement, “K1.4 million was paid as subsistence allowances to the Minister of Labour and a Labour Commissioner, Mr. HK Nyangulu, when they accompanied President Lazarus Chakwera on his trip to South Africa.”

Social media is since questioning as to how, on earth, would money meant for COVID-19 fight be given as allowance to a Cabinet Minister, not from the Ministry of Health, but labour as allowance for flying to South Africa for just accompanying a president.
