Police arrest 10 law enforcers over illegal immigrants trafficking

KASUNGU (MalawiTalk) –Malawi Police have arrested 10 law enforcers in Kasungu on allegations that they aiding illegal immigrants into the country.

The 10 police officers are accused of aiding 15 Ethiopians and three Somalians into the country.

According to a statement signed by James Kadadzera, National Police spokesperson, the move was busted by CID officers who intercepted the illegal activity at Chilanga area in Kasungu district on April 2, 2021.

“Investigations have revealed that the officers received money through mobile money transfers to  give the illegal immigrants free passage at police check points,”reads part of the statement.

Kadadzera -10 police officers are currently in custody at Kasungu Police Station

Kadadzera has since said the 10 police officers are currently in custody at Kasungu Police Station and are likely to answer charges of aiding illegal immigrants, abuse of office and corrupt practices.

He has further urged Malawians to report anyone, including police officers involved in illegal activities, to the nearest police station for action.
