Teachers should demand better salaries

MZUZU (MalawiTalk) –Youth and Society (YAS) says it will seek legal redress and hold demonstrations if government and Teachers Union of Malawi fail to resolve their differences during their meeting Thursday.

YAS Programs Manager Mr Amos Simwela said this at a media briefing in Mzuzu on Wednesday.

He said the stay away is affecting innocent children whose absolute right to education is provided for in the  Constitution.

Meanwhile, Teachers Union of Malawi says it is struggling to find any relevance in the Thursday meeting with the Government Negotiation Team.

TUM President Mr Willie Malimba said they do not have direct invitation to the meeting.

But government’s spokesperson, Mr Gospel Kazako is optimistic the meeting will see the two sides mending fences.
