Police net 3 bus drivers over chamba ferrying


MACHINGA (MalawiTalk) – Three bus drivers are in police custody awaiting trial after they were arrested in Machinga on suspicion that they were involved in ferrying bags of marijuana, locally known as Chamba.

The three; Dayton Kalimbuka, 24, Brave Phiri, 27, and Alick Mposa were arrested on Friday, April 2 on the Mzuzu-Blantyre via Zomba route.

Officers who were manning a roadblock at Machinga arrested the three who work for City Tours Bus Service, after they failed to identify the owners of seven plastic bags and two laptop bags containing the loose herb.

Meanwhile, Eastern Region Deputy Police Spokesperson Tionge Kayenda has confirmed the arrest saying the cannabis has been taken to Bvumbwe research station for tests.
