Mutharika, Muhara make fresh application for stay on K69.5m legal costs

Mutharika - wants review

LILONGWE (MalawiTalk) –Former President Pro Peter Mutharika and former government Chief Secretary Mr Llyod Muhara have made fresh application for another stay order on the K69.5 million kwacha legal costs.

Mutharika and Muhara were ordered to pay after they were found guilty in the Chief Justice’s case.

They have also made another application to have the K69.5 million costs reviewed.

Mutharika’s lawyer Mr Charles Mhango has confirmed the new applications, saying the two matters are to come before the High Court on 9th and 26th April respectively.

Meanwhile lawyer for the claimants Mr Khumbo Soko has said that the claimants have commenced enforcement proceedings to force Mutharika and Muhara to pay the costs after 14days they were ordered to do so have elapsed.

Weeks ago, High Court Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda dismissed Mutharika’s application where they also wanted the court to suspend payment of the costs.
