BLANTYRE (MalawiTalk) –Revenue collection body, the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has punished some shop owners for defaulting on electronic fiscal device receipts.
Over 340 shop owners of about in Blantyre have been fined K500 000 each for defaulting issuance of Electronic Fiscal Device receipt to customers.
This comes barely weeks after MRA launched a “Kuiphula ndi Receipt Yanga”, a campaign that aims at taking to task unscrupulous traders who evade tax by not issuing receipts.
Mr Steve Kapoloma, Corporate Affairs Manager for MRA says the campaign is revealing how deep rooted the tendency of evading tax through receipts is in the country.
