Conman fleeces Aitel money agents arrested

LILONGWE (MalawiTalk) – Police in Lilongwe have arrested 33-year-old conman suspected to have been fleecing Airtel money agent

He has been identified as Mr Yamikani Mwapasa Geoffrey who allegedly stole over K3 million from  Airtel money agents.

The suspect has been swindling money from Airtelmoney agents in areas 25, 28, 29, 49, 50 and 51 respectively by pretending to be an employee of Airtel Malawi dealing in service systems upgrading.

Kanengo Police spokesperson Esther Mkwanda said the suspect  has been snatching phones and pin codes from agents which he has been using to cash out money.

According to Mkwanda, Geoffrey has also been using a motor vehicle Honda Freed, black in colour registration number CP 8736.

Geoffrey, who hails from Makankhula Village in the area of  Traditional Authority Kaphuka in Dedza district, will appear in court soon to answer a charge of theft by trick.
