Tobacco Commission fires deputy CEO, 2 others over abuse of office

Chidanti TC's CEO - the positions will be filled

LILONGWE (MalawiTalk) – The Tobacco Commission (TC) has fired the deputy chief executive officer Mr Levi Phelani, the  Internal Audit Manager Mr William Katenje and director of finance  Mr Destone Katenje, TC board chairperson Harry Mkandawire has confirmed the development.

Mkandawire said the three have been fired over abuse of office.

He  said: “I can confirm that indeed we have offloaded him (Phelani) reason being, abuse of his authority. “

Mkandawire added: “We are carrying out reforms and investigations of institutional operations at the Commission so as to bring efficiency”.

TC chief executive officer Dr Joseph Chidanti Malunga said he expects the positions to be filled soon.
