5 Congolese arrested for illegal entry in Malawi

LILONGWE (MalawiTalk) – Malawi Police in Rumphi have arrested five Congolese for entering Malawi without valid documents.

Rumphi Police Station spokesperson Henry Mnjere said they arrested the  suspects during the night of March 21 to 22, 2021 at Chitimba Roadblock in the districton their way to Mzuzu.

He said motorcycle taxi operators (kabaza) carried the passengers, but escaped when they saw   officers manning the roadblock.

Surprised with what was happening, police officers followed up and took the dropped passengers for interrogation.

“Upon interrogation, it was discovered that they were foreign nationals who entered the country illegally,” said Mnjere

The suspected illegal immigrants have since been charged with illegal entry into Malawi and will appear in a court.

The suspects are Esther Neema, 40, Kashindi Djuma, 10, Fyda Bukuru, 18, Abubacar Samuel, 25 and John Foster, 30, all from Democratic Republic of Congo.
