DODOMA (MalawiTalk) –President Lazarus Chakwera on Monday morning  signed a Book of Condolence in Dodoma, Tanzania for  ex-President John Magufuli, who died on Wednesday aged 61.

Chakwera  described Magufuli’s passing as a “loss not just one for the people of Tanzania, but for Malawi, and Africa at large.”

The President wrote: “Magufuli exemplified commitment to public service, integrity and determination, leaving an indelible mark, not only on Tanzania  but well beyond the borders of his country.”

Chakwera conveyed his most heartfelt condolences to the Government and the people of Tanzani, as well as to his family for the great loss.

The Malawi leader joined thousands of people who attended the funeral ceremony  at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma as Magufuli’s coffin, draped in the national flag was lying in state before his burial in his hometown of district in Geita region on March 26.

Magufuli, 61, died of heart disease Wednesday at the Emilio Mzena Hospital in the business capital Dar es Salaam.

He was the son of a peasant farmer and went on to became Tanzania’s president in 2015.
