Malawi police arrest 2 pastors for alleged theft

LILONGWE (MalawiTalk) – Malawi Police in Lilongwe have arrested two pastors for allegedly obtaining money by false pretence.

Kanengo Police Station spokesperson Esther Mkwanda said the two aged 49 and 35, allegedly went around Mgona location in December 2020 asking people to create clubs of 20 members each so they could receive loans from National Economic Empowerment Fund (Neef).

“They demanded  registration fee of K4 000 from each member and 33 clubs were formed.

Arrested

“They collected K2.7 million in the procee,” said Mkwanda.

She said the people waited until March 2021 to receive the loans when they realised that they were duped.
