LILONGWE (MalawiTalk) – Former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regional governor for the centre and Cabinet minister, Mr Binton Kuntsaira has resigned from the party.
In a letter dated February 3 2020 ito the office of the Speaker of National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara, Kutsaira did not give reasons for his decision to leave the former ruling party.
“I wish to advise that I have resigned as a member of Democratic Progressive Party with immediate effect,” writes Kutsaira.
Kutsaira who is also a Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Msinja North, further communicated that he will represent his Constituency as an independent legislator.
“In view of the foregoing, kindly allocate me a seat on the independent (Opposition) benches when the House resumes,” he added.
He first made into parliament in 1999 on Malawi Congress Party (MCP) ticket and has been fa nomadic politician moving from one political party and rewarded through lucrative positions in government.
He once ditched the DPP to join People Party (PP) after the demise of Bingu Wa Mutharika in 2012.
Kutsaira was one of the few members of parliament who won on a DPP ticket in the central region in the controversial 2019 elections.
He once served as head of State spy agency in DPP administration.
