11 of 70 tested returnees show Covid-19 positive as Malawi government is ‘overwhelmed’

DEDZA (MalawiTalk) – Eleven of 70 Malawians who were tested for Covid-19 at Dedza Stadium upon arriving from South Africa through Dedza border post are positive to the virus.

Dedza District Health Office spokesperson, Mwai Liabunya, says the members, one Malawian  turned out positive yesterday and was escorted to his home in a vehicle.

Liabunya says the 11 who have tested positive are on the bus.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health, Mrs Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, says her ministry is overwhelmed with Covid-19 and that there is need for different stakeholders to assist in fighting the pandemic.

Chiponda has made the remarks in Lilongwe at the launch of the distribution of Covid-19 prevention and general disaster response materials by Malawi Red Cross Society worth K1.6 billion.

Said Chiponda:“The pandemic is continuing to cause a lot of sorrow and anxiety.”

She has indicated that through collective efforts, the nation will overcome the scourge.
